How to Change the Account Ownership

Learn how to transfer Certifier workspace ownership to another user.

Before You Start

Transferring organization ownership passes full control of your Certifier organization to another user — including access to sensitive actions like deleting the organization and managing Organization Admins. This action can only be performed by the current Organization Owner.

Before proceeding, make sure both of the following are true:

  1. You are the current Organization Owner. Only the Organization Owner can initiate this process.

  2. The new owner is already an Organization Admin. If they're not, add them first in Organization Settings → Administrators.

Step-by-step instruction

  1. Log in to Certifier as the current Organization Owner and go to Settings → Organization → General.

  2. In the Transfer Organization Ownership section, click Transfer Ownership.

  3. A warning dialog will appear. Review what this action means:

    • You will be downgraded to Organization Admin.

    • The new owner will gain full control over the organization, including deleting the organization and managing Organization Admins.

    Click Next to continue.

  4. Select the team member you want to transfer ownership to from the dropdown and click Next.

    💡 Only existing Organization Admins appear in this list. Don't see the right person? Click Grant them Organization Admin access first in Organization Settings → Administrators, then return to this flow.

  5. A confirmation code will be sent to your registered email address. In the final dialog:

    • Enter the confirmation code.

    • Check both confirmation boxes to acknowledge the role change and the new owner's permissions.

    • Click Transfer Ownership.

And it's done! Now your account has the correct owner ✅

Can't Add the New Owner to Your Workspace?

If your current plan doesn't allow you to add more team members, you can still transfer ownership by following these steps:

  1. Log in to your own Certifier account.

  2. Change your login email to the new owner's email address in Settings → Account.

This works as long as that email isn't already registered with another Certifier account. Once changed, the new owner can log in with their email and take over the account.
