Understanding Recipients in Certifier

See everyone you've certified in one list and open any profile to view their full history.

Written by Valeriia

What is the Recipients page?

The Recipients page lists everyone you've issued credentials to. Each recipient has a profile with their full credential history.

  • You'll find it in the sidebar under Issue & Track → Recipients:

💡 The Recipients page doesn't replace All Credentials. Use All Credentials to manage individual credentials, and Recipients to see the people behind them.

How are recipients created

Recipients are created automatically — you don't need to add them yourself.

  1. When you issue a credential to a new email address, Certifier creates a recipient for it.

  2. The recipient's name is taken from that first credential.

  3. Every next credential issued to the same email address is added to the same recipient.

The recipient's name is set from the first credential issued to their email. It doesn't change when you later issue credentials with a different name but the same email address.

Example: You issue a test credential to Sample Recipient at [email protected]. Later, you issue a real one to Jane Smith at the same email address. The recipient is still listed as Sample Recipient, while the second credential shows Jane Smith.

ℹ️ You can change the recipient's name on their profile. The new name is shown in Certifier and on the recipient's Issuer Portal profile if enabled. See How to change a recipient's name below.

⚠️ Changing the name on a recipient’s profile doesn’t update names on their credentials. Each credential keeps the name entered at issuance. To change it, edit that credential directly.

Why can't I see some recipients?

Recipients without an email address aren't listed on the Recipients page. Certifier identifies recipients by email, so credentials issued without one can't be grouped under a person.

  • These credentials still work as usual — you can find them under All Credentials:

What's in a recipient profile?

A recipient profile brings everything about one person into one place. To open a profile, click View next to the recipient:

At the top, you'll see the recipient's name, email, and the date they were created. Click the pencil icon next to the name to change it, or Issuer Portal Profile to open their profile in your Issuer Portal, if it's enabled:

To export or delete the recipient, use Export or Delete in the top-right corner:

Right below, see when the recipient was Last certified, how many Credentials they hold, and how many Pathways they're enrolled in:

The rest of the profile is split into three tabs. On the Credentials tab, you'll find every credential issued to the recipient, with its status. Click View to see a credential's details or edit it:

The Pathways tab shows the pathways the recipient is enrolled in and their progress. Click View to see which credentials they've earned in that pathway:

The Activity tab shows a timeline of everything that happened with the recipient's credentials — from sent emails to downloads and LinkedIn shares. Use the filters to show specific activity types or change the time period:

How to change a recipient's name

You can change a recipient’s name on their profile (the email address can't be changed, because it identifies the recipient):

  1. Open the recipient's profile.

  2. Click the pencil icon (Edit) next to their name.

  3. Enter the new name and click Save Changes.

The new name is shown in Certifier and on the recipient's Issuer Portal profile, if the Issuer Portal is enabled.

⚠️ Changing the recipient name won't affect issued credentials. To update the name on a specific credential, click View next to that credential on the recipient's profile and choose Edit Credential.

How to export recipients

  1. Select the recipients you want to export.

  2. Click Export.

  3. Click Generate export.

  4. The file will be generated within a couple of minutes. Download it from Settings → Export History.

ℹ️ For security reasons, exports are automatically deleted after 14 days.

How to delete recipients

  1. Select the recipients you want to delete.

  2. Click Delete.

  3. Confirm the deletion.

❗️ Deleting a recipient also permanently deletes all their credentials and their Issuer Portal profile. Recipients will no longer be able to access these credentials. This can't be undone.

Frequently asked questions

The same person appears twice. Why?

They most likely received credentials at two different email addresses. Each email address creates a separate recipient.

Can I change a recipient's email address?

No. The email address identifies the recipient, so only the name can be changed. Credentials issued to a new email address create a new recipient.

Can I add a recipient without issuing a credential?

No. A recipient is created only when you issue them their first credential.
