What are the expiration dates in Certifier?
By default, the credentials you issue with Certifier will be active until you delete them. However, we understand that some should only be valid for a specific period — for example, certificates for courses that need to be taken regularly or badges confirming membership to your organization (which can be revoked).
Luckily, there are multiple ways to set and change the expiration dates - manually and automatically!
👑 Expirable credentials are available to our Professional plan users and above.
Setting automatic Expiration Date per Group
If you wish for your credentials to expire in a specific period after they have been issued, it can be easily enabled in your Group Settings.
Here's how to do it:
Go to Groups tab, and click on the Group you're interested in.
Go to Advanced Settings section.
Toggle the setting in the Expiration Date section ("I would like my badges or certificates to expire").
Set the desired time unit and number.
Press Save.
And that's it! The credentials issued from this group will automatically expire when the time you set passes after the issue date.
❗️ Important note: Once set, the setting affects future issuances only.
Changing Issue and Expiration Date in bulk
By default, Certifier sets the issue date to the current one and leaves the expiration date empty (unless you provided different data or set different settings in Groups tab).
However, you can easily set both dates for the whole batch of recipients in the next step - Preview before issuing.
In the Group & Recipients section, you'll be able to edit the dates by clicking on the pen icon next to them. The selected dates will apply to all the recipients you're working on.
Setting Issue and Expiration Date per Recipient
You can easily provide unique dates for each recipient, by allowing date mapping in your attribute settings. To do so, you'll just need to:
Go to Settings → Attributes (direct link here)
Toggle the setting at the top of the page ("Allow date mapping during the issuance process (in the smart table)"):
3. Mapping issue and expiration date attributes is now enabled! 🥳
Once that's done, you'll be able to easily add the desired dates for each certificate you issue. In the process of adding recipients to any of your groups, you can simply click on the + Add Attribute button and select the desired date attribute, in a preferred format:
You'll then be able to either fill those values manually for each recipient or map the values from the spreadsheet you're importing!
Editing Issue and Expiration Date for issued credentials
If you want to change the dates for already issued credentials, you can do that by viewing any of the credentials. Here's how that works:
Enter the Credentials tab (direct link here)
Find the credentials you want to edit
Scroll to the right using the bar at the bottom of the page and click on View.
Edit any of the values in the Information section.
Press on Save!
❗️Important note: After editing the information, you don't need to resend the credentials. The changes will be automatically applied and visible on the recipient page once you click on Save!
Conclusion
You've learned all the valuable ways to set the expiration dates for your credentials. Congratulations! ☺️
