Getting Started with Docebo Automations
Certifier Automations follow a simple "trigger → action" flow:
A trigger happens in Docebo: a learner completes the course you selected.
An action happens in Certifier: a credential is created and, depending on your settings, issued and emailed to the learner.
The available Docebo trigger is:
⚠️ Important: Before starting, make sure the Credential Template you want to use is ready in Certifier.
Before You Begin: Create an OAuth2 App in Docebo
Certifier connects to Docebo through an OAuth2 app that you create in your Docebo platform. You need a Docebo admin account with access to the API settings.
💡 Tip: You can start creating your automation in Certifier first (Step 1 and the start of Step 2 below). The Connect Docebo window in Certifier shows the OAuth redirect URL you need to enter in Docebo. Keep both tabs open while you set things up.
To create the OAuth2 app:
Log in to your Docebo platform as an admin.
Open the Admin menu and go to Add-ons and integrations → API via OAuth.
Open the API credentials tab.
Click Add OAuth2 app.
Fill in the fields:
App name (1): for example,
CertifierApp description (2): for example,
Certifier credential automationClient ID (3): enter an ID of your choice, for example,
certifierClient secret (4): generated automatically. Copy it now.
Redirect URI (5): paste the OAuth redirect URL from the Connect Docebo window in Certifier. You can also copy it from here:
https://api.certifier.dev/v1/connections/oauth/callback
Check Show advanced settings and make sure Authorization code + implicit grant is selected under Grant types.
Click Confirm.
In the Applications allowed to use OAuth2 list, find your new app and click the activation icon to activate it.
Keep the Client ID and Client Secret handy. You'll paste them into Certifier in Step 2.
For more information, see Docebo API documentation.
Step-by-Step Setup
Step 1. Create Your Automation
In Certifier, go to Automations.
Click Create Automation.
Select the Docebo template.
Click Use Template.
Step 2. Configure the Trigger
Open the Trigger Configuration
Click the Trigger card. The template should already have the following options selected:
App: Docebo
Event: Course completed
Click Continue to open the configuration.
Connect Your Docebo Account
Open the Account field.
Select an existing Docebo connection or click + Connect New Account.
In the Connect Docebo window, enter:
Platform URL (1): your Docebo address, for example,
https://your-company.docebosaas.comClient ID (2): the Client ID you entered in Docebo
Client Secret (3): the Client Secret Docebo generated
Click Connect.
Docebo opens an Authorization required window. Click Authorize.
You'll see a confirmation that your account is connected.
Select the Course
Your Docebo trigger is now configured.
Step 3. Configure the Action
Next, you’ll need to configure the action. To do so, open this guide in a new tab: Configuring Certifier Action: Issue Credential
For the required recipient fields, use:
Recipient Name: Student Name
Recipient Email: Student Email
⚠️ Important: The instructions for this step are laid out in a separate guide.
We recommend opening the action setup guide in a new tab so you can easily return to this article afterwards. Once you finish configuring the action, make sure to come back here to finalize and activate your automation.
Step 4. Finalize and Activate
Click Save & Activate.
Give the automation a clear name, such as
Docebo – Customer Onboarding Course completed.Click Confirm & Activate.
Your automation is now live!
⚠️ Important: Once an automation is active, it cannot be edited.
To change the course, field mapping, Credential Template, or delivery settings, delete the automation and create a new one.
What It Looks Like in Practice
A learner completes the selected Docebo course after the Certifier automation has been activated.
Docebo notifies Certifier of the completion.
Certifier creates the credential using your selected Credential Template.
If Issue Credential and Send Credential are set to True, the learner receives the credential by email.
When you activate the automation, Certifier adds a webhook named Certifier course completion to your Docebo platform under Add-ons and integrations → Webhooks. Docebo uses it to send completions to Certifier.
Important Notes
Only new completions are processed. Learners who completed the course before the automation was activated are not issued credentials retroactively.
One automation monitors one course. Create a separate automation for every Docebo course that should issue a different credential or use different settings.
The OAuth2 app must stay active. If the app is deactivated or deleted in Docebo, Certifier can no longer receive course completions.
Wrapping Up
With the Docebo Course completed trigger, Certifier can issue credentials automatically whenever learners finish the course you selected.
