How to Connect Kajabi to Certifier to Automatically Issue Credentials

Automate credential issuance in Certifier whenever a learner completes a course in Kajabi.

Getting Started with Kajabi Automations

Certifier Automations follow a simple “trigger → action” flow:

  • A trigger happens in Kajabi: completing the final lesson adds a dedicated completion tag to the learner.

  • An action happens in Certifier: Certifier receives the tag event and creates a credential for that learner.

The available Kajabi trigger is:

Unlike the Thinkific and Teachable triggers, Kajabi sends this event to Certifier through a webhook, so it is normally received shortly after the completion tag is added.

⚠️ Important: Before starting, make sure the Credential Template you want to use is ready in Certifier.

Before You Begin: Prepare Kajabi

Kajabi requires two pieces of preparation:

  1. Create a User API Key that Certifier can use.

  2. Add an automation to the course’s final lesson that applies a dedicated completion tag.

Complete both parts before configuring the Certifier trigger.

Part 1. Create a Kajabi User API Key

Kajabi’s Public API is currently included with its newer Pro plan and can also be purchased as an add-on. Only Kajabi Owners and Subowners can create API keys. See Using Kajabi’s Public API for current availability.

  1. In Kajabi, go to Settings → Public API.

  2. Click Create User API Key.

  3. Enter a recognizable name, such as Certifier (1).

  4. Select the account user (2)

  5. Grant access to the resources Certifier needs (3):

    • view:contacts

    • view:contact_tags

    • view:courses

    • view:sites

  6. Click Create.

  7. Copy both values:

    • API Key

    • API Secret

  8. Store both values securely.

Permission labels can differ slightly as Kajabi updates its Public API. In the current Kajabi interface, there is no separate Webhooks permission checkbox. The selected user must also have access to the site you plan to connect.

⚠️ Rotating or deleting the Kajabi credentials invalidates Certifier’s connection.

Part 2. Add a Completion Tag to the Final Lesson

Create a dedicated tag for this course, such as certifier-completed-product-design. Do not reuse the tag for unrelated courses or workflows.

  1. In Kajabi, go to Products → Courses.

  2. Open the course you want to connect.

  3. Open the course’s final lesson.

  4. Scroll to the Automations section at the bottom of the Lesson Editor.

  5. Click + Add Automation.

  6. Add Trigger Name, confirm the correct lesson is selected, and press Save Trigger.

    ⚠️ Important: The selected lesson must truly be the final step in the course. Certifier treats the tag as the completion signal – it does not independently calculate the learner’s Kajabi course progress.

  7. Press the + Then button and select the Add a tag action.

  8. Select your dedicated completion tag or create a new one, then Save Action.

  9. Click Save to activate the automation.

Step-by-Step Setup

Step 1. Create Your Automation

  1. In Certifier, go to Automations.

  2. Click Create Automation.

  3. Select the Kajabi template.

  4. Click Use Template.

Step 2. Configure the Trigger

Open the Trigger Configuration

Click the Trigger card. The template should already have the following options selected:

  • App: Kajabi

  • Event: Course completed

Click Continue to open the configuration.

Connect Your Kajabi Account

  1. Open the Account field.

  2. Select an existing Kajabi connection or click + Connect New Account.

  3. Enter the API Key and API Secret from the User API Key you created and click Connect.

⚠️ Keep both values private. Never include visible production credentials in a screenshot or support message.

Select the Site, Course, and Completion Tag

  1. Select the Site that contains the course.

  2. Select the Course whose completion should issue the credential.

  3. In the Course completion tag, select the same dedicated tag used by the automation on the course’s final lesson.

  4. Click Save & Continue.

Your Kajabi trigger is now configured. Certifier creates and manages the filtered webhook when the automation is activated.

Step 3. Configure the Action

Next, you’ll need to configure the action. To do so, open this guide in a new tab: Configuring Certifier Action: Issue Credential

For the required recipient fields, use:

  • Recipient Name: Student Name

  • Recipient Email: Student Email

💡 Tip: Leave Issue Date blank to use the date on which Certifier processes the tag event. Kajabi’s Completed At value includes a time, while the Issue Date field accepts only YYYY-MM-DD.

You can also map Course Name, Completion Tag Name, or other available Kajabi data to matching custom attributes.

We recommend opening the action setup guide in a new tab so you can easily return to this article afterwards. Once you finish configuring the action, make sure to come back here to finalize and activate your automation.

Step 4. Finalize and Activate

  1. Click Save & Activate.

  2. Give the automation a clear name, such as Kajabi – Product Design – Course completed.

  3. Click Confirm & Activate.

Your automation is now live!

⚠️ Important: Once an automation is active, it cannot be edited.

To change the site, course, completion tag, field mapping, Credential Template, or delivery settings, delete the automation and create a new one.

What It Looks Like in Practice

  1. A learner completes the final lesson after the Certifier automation has been activated.

  2. Kajabi adds the dedicated completion tag to the learner’s contact.

  3. Kajabi sends the matching tag event to Certifier.

  4. Certifier creates the credential using your selected Credential Template.

  5. If Issue Credential and Send Credential are set to True, the learner receives the credential by email.

Important Notes

  • Only new tag events are processed. Learners who already had the completion tag before activation are not issued credentials retroactively.

  • Use one dedicated tag per course. Reusing a tag across courses can trigger the wrong credential automation.

  • Do not apply the completion tag early. Certifier relies on the tag as proof that the learner completed the configured final lesson.

  • Do not remove and re-add the completion tag. Every new matching tag-added event can trigger another credential.

Wrapping Up

With the Kajabi Course completed trigger, a final-lesson completion tag can prompt Certifier to issue the appropriate credential automatically.
