How to Connect LearnDash to Certifier to Automatically Issue Credentials

Automate issuing credentials in Certifier using our official Certifier for LearnDash WordPress plugin.

Written by Caroline Tyrko

⚠️ Note: LearnDash works differently from most Certifier integrations.

Instead of configuring automations inside the Certifier app (like HubSpot), you install a small plugin on your WordPress site. The plugin listens for LearnDash course completions and sends them to Certifier.

How the LearnDash Integration Works

Here's the full picture before we dive in:

  1. A learner completes a course in LearnDash.

  2. The Certifier for the LearnDash plugin catches the completion event on your WordPress site.

  3. The plugin sends the learner's name and email to Certifier, together with the credential template you mapped to that course.

  4. Certifier creates, issues, and emails the credential to the learner.

Once connected, every learner who completes a mapped LearnDash course automatically receives a personalized, verifiable credential in their inbox β€” no manual work required.

Each learner receives a given course's credential only once β€” retaking or re-completing a course won't create duplicates.

Before You Begin

Make sure you have:

  • A WordPress site where you can install plugins (administrator access).

  • LearnDash LMS is installed and active.

  • A Certifier account with at least one credential template (group) ready to issue.

πŸ““ Not sure about credential templates? Check out How to create a credential template.

Step 1: Install the Certifier for LearnDash Plugin

  1. In your WordPress admin, go to Plugins β†’ Add New.

  2. Search for Certifier for LearnDash.

  3. Click Install Now, then Activate.

πŸ’‘ You can also download the plugin from the WordPress plugin directory and upload the zip via Plugins β†’ Add New β†’ Upload Plugin.

Step 2: Create a Certifier Access Token

  1. Click Generate access token and give it a recognizable name, e.g. LearnDash plugin.

  2. Copy the token right away β€” for security reasons, it is shown only once.

⚠️ Treat the access token like a password. Anyone with the token can issue credentials from your workspace.

Step 3: Connect Your WordPress Site

  1. In WordPress, open Certifier for LearnDash β†’ Settings.

  2. Paste your access token in the Access token field (1) and click Save settings (2).

  3. Click Test Certifier connection (3).

You should see a "Certifier connection works" confirmation.

Step 4: Map Courses to Credential Templates

  1. Open Certifier for LearnDash β†’ Course Issuance.

  2. Click Add mapping.

  3. Select a LearnDash course on the left (1) and the Certifier group (credential template) it should issue on the right (2).

  4. Repeat for every course that should award a credential, then click Save course mappings (3).

Your integration is ready. πŸŽ‰

Step 5: Test the Setup

  1. Enroll a test learner (with a real email address you can access) in a mapped course.

  2. Complete the course as that learner.

  3. Check the test learner's inbox β€” the credential email should arrive within a minute.

  4. You can also confirm the result in Certifier (the credential appears in the mapped group) or in Certifier for LearnDash β†’ Issue Logs in WordPress.

⚠️ Use a dedicated test account rather than your admin account β€” admins often aren't enrolled as learners, and LearnDash only fires completion events for enrolled users.

What Learners Receive

When a learner completes a mapped course, they receive an email from Certifier with their personalized credential. They can view, download, and share it (including on LinkedIn), and anyone can verify it online.

Important Notes

  • Credentials are issued only for mapped courses β€” completions of unmapped courses are ignored.

  • The learner must have an email address on their WordPress account.

  • The plugin sends the learner's name, email, mapped group ID, and issue date to Certifier (nothing else), and nothing is sent until you save a token and map a course.

  • Duplicate protection is built in: the same learner + course combination is issued only once.

Troubleshooting

"LearnDash is not active" notice in WordPress

The plugin requires LearnDash LMS. Install and activate LearnDash, and the notice will disappear.

A learner completed a course, but no credential arrived

Check Certifier for LearnDash β†’ Issue Logs in WordPress. Make sure the course is mapped, the learner's WordPress account has an email address, and the completion happened after the mapping was saved β€” completions from before the plugin was configured are not issued retroactively.

Wrapping Up

That's it! πŸŽ“ Your LearnDash graduates now receive professional, verifiable credentials automatically the moment they finish a course.
