Getting Started with ActiveCampaign Automations
Certifier Automations follow a simple “trigger → action” logic.
A trigger happens in ActiveCampaign (for example, a contact joins a dynamic segment).
An action happens in Certifier (for example, issuing a credential).
Currently, there is 1 available trigger for ActiveCampaign:
Contact Added to Segment
Trigger: Contact Added to Segment
This trigger issues a credential whenever a contact newly qualifies for (is added to) a selected ActiveCampaign segment.
💡 Segments vs. Lists in ActiveCampaign: Segments are dynamic groups that auto-update based on conditions (like “Course Completed = Yes”), while lists are static and managed manually.
Step 1. Configure the Trigger
Open the Trigger Configuration and select ActiveCampaign as the app, then choose Contact Added to Segment as the event.
Connect your ActiveCampaign account using API URL and API Key: click on the Account field → +Connect New Account, then paste your credentials.
Log in to your ActiveCampaign account, and go to Settings → Developer → API Access to copy your API URL (1) and API Key (2). Paste those details in Certifier, and press Connect.Select the Segment you want to monitor (e.g., Course Completers, VIP Members).
Click Save & Continue. Your trigger is ready. 🎉
Step 2. Configure the Action
Next, you’ll need to configure the action. To do so, open this guide in a new tab: Configuring Certifier Action: Issue Credential
⚠️ Important: The instructions for this step are laid out in a separate guide.
We recommend opening the action setup guide in a new tab so you can easily return to this article afterwards. Once you finish configuring the action, make sure to come back here to finalize and activate your automation.
Important Notes
A credential is issued once when a contact enters the segment (e.g., Tag
Training Completeis added or a field changes to meet the rule). If a contact leaves the segment and later re-enters, a credential is issued again.
If a contact qualifies for multiple segments at the same time, a credential is issued once per segment.
Moving between segments (no longer in A → newly in B) will only issue for B.
Contacts already in the segment before you activate the trigger will not receive credentials (unless you purposely re-add them to the segment later).
Removing a contact from a segment does not revoke any credentials already issued.
Contacts must have a valid email in ActiveCampaign; otherwise, the automation skips them and logs an error.
Large batch updates (e.g., imports or mass tag changes) are processed; all newly qualifying contacts are handled.
Wrapping Up
That’s it! 🎓
With ActiveCampaign segment-based triggers in Certifier Automations, you can automatically issue credentials the moment contacts meet your dynamic segment rules — ensuring recognition is always timely and consistent.
