Getting Started with Salesforce Automations
Certifier Automations follow a simple “trigger → action” logic.
A trigger happens in Salesforce (for example, a new record change).
An action happens in Certifier (for example, issuing a credential).
Currently, there is one available trigger for Salesforce:
New Record Updated
Trigger: New record updated
This trigger issues a credential whenever a chosen field of a Salesforce record changes.
Step 1. Configure the Trigger
Open the Trigger Configuration and select Salesforce as the app, then choose New record updated as the event.
Connect your Salesforce account via OAuth: click Connect Salesforce, log in, and allow access by pressing Connect App.
⚠️ Important: While connecting your Salesforce account, you'll be prompted to choose the Instance Type.
Make sure to select the Production Instance type. It's required for the Automation to work correctly.
Select the Object Type you want to monitor for events (for example: Contact).
Enable Optional Props: Press on the Fields to Watch prop to add it (1), and choose the field that will be monitored for changes (for example: Course Completed, Tier) (2).
⚠️ Important: Make sure to enable this prop and select exactly one field for monitoring. Otherwise, you will not be able to proceed with the Automation.
Press on the second prop, "Skip existing records when first activated", to add it, and make sure to enable it.
Before you proceed, confirm that the Optional Props section looks like this:
✅ Fields to Watch: One field selected
✅ Skip existing records when first activated
⚠️ Important: Both props are required for correct behavior. If either option is off, your automation may misfire, create duplicates, or fail to trigger as intended.
Click Submit. Your trigger is ready. 🎉
Step 2. Configure the Action
Next, you’ll need to configure the action. To do so, open this guide in a new tab: How to set up the Issue Credential Action.
⚠️ Important: The instructions for this step are laid down in a separate guide
We recommend opening the action setup guide in a new tab so you can easily return to this article afterwards. Once you finish configuring the action, make sure to come back here to finalize and activate your automation.
Important Notes
The trigger fires only when a field value changes (e.g., Bronze → Silver).
If a record is created with the field already filled, no credential is issued.
If a record is created with the field empty and then updated (e.g., “” → Bronze), a credential is issued.
Multiple changes in a short time (e.g., Bronze → Silver → Gold) will issue a credential for the latest value only.
Updates where the value stays the same (Bronze → Bronze) are ignored.
Records without an email cannot receive credentials.
Wrapping Up
That’s it! 🎓
With Salesforce triggers in Certifier Automations, you can automatically issue credentials based on new record changes — ensuring recognition is always timely and consistent.
